Welcome to our whimsical world
I’m a Norwegian artist with a degree in biology and a masters in fine art and design. A weird little mix! I enjoy exploring sculpting, ceramics and watercolors and how to incorporate biology into my practice. Growing up in a small town on the coast of Saltnes, I grew a distinct passion for the marine environment and the unknown biodiversity. I spent many summers on the boat or snorkeling in the waters and seeing the life gradually disappear throughout the years. I hope to spread awareness of human environmental and ecological impacts in a comfortable space. I started my studies in biology at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and had my internship in marine research, specializing in wild dolphin photo identification at The Blue World Institute in Croatia, but soon realised after graduating my bachelor how difficult the job market is. Maybe I will come back to it later one day, but at that moment I thought “If it`s this difficult to get a job in what my parents called a “safe option”, why not go for something more creative if I am not going to get a job anyways?!”
I have always had a huge interest for the creative field and I found this cool master study in the Netherlands where I could get in without neccessarily having a bachelor in art, but biology! So I decided to become a bit adventurous. It was a more contemporary study focusing on environmental impact of art. Sounds perfect right? I moved to the Netherlands for a couple years to study, but realised I was more of a craftman and do-er, rather than a contemporary researcher and philosopher. However, I got to experience so many art techniques like ceramics, lino and even making biodesigns in the lab! I had a great ceramic tutor and a good friend who introduced me to porcelain and gold lusters, along with exploring more of my love for watercolors. I also enjoyed my stay with the superb train connections and comic cons almost every second weekend.
You see- Early around 2012, I got introduced to anime, and even earlier to gaming. I spent years watching my big brother and parents play games. I quickly became emerged into the small cosplay community Norway had to offer and had the opportunity to go to a good handful of comic cons. I also sold my crafts to a couple of them and even more so in the Netherlands! I am very grateful for the friends I have gotten throughout my many years in the community and I can`t wait for many more memories. I guess that is why my creations are often with playful characters inspired by video games and anime, that makes even the hardest ceramics come alive.
Thank you for reading my journey, though my journey is far from over. Please check out my art if interested and support my journey by sharing, engaging or purchasing small whimsical art works.
